Low Carbon Pre-heating

One of the key NIC projects that DPS has been involved with is the Programme Manager for NIC low carbon pre-heating programme for the Major Projects management team.

Across the gas networks the majority of the pre-heating is performed by old inefficient water bath heaters. Two alternative technologies, Low Pressure Steam and Thermo Catalytic Systems, were identified, and were trialled for three years, alongside existing technologies, across 12 sites. Data was made available, in real time, to other gas distribution networks and the wider industry.

As part of the project the new pre-heating technologies were tested during field trials with the existing pre-heat infrastructure being left in situ in the event of a total failure in accordance with G23. The support that DPS were involved enabled the client to successfully secure £4.6m of funding over 3 years for the implementation of the study.

The role included assisting with the NIC bid submission.
